ABOUT "MRS. K"

Mrs. K was born in Altas, Oklahoma, but considers herself 99% Texan.  Evidence?  She lives on sweet tea and Tex-Mex.  Mrs. K spent over 30 years in child learning and education, almost two decades of which was for the North Lamar School system in Paris, Texas. During that time she worked directly with elementary-aged children in the classroom, and also as a reading interventionist.  She was certified by the state of Texas in special education in 2005.  She is familiar with several types of classification and diagnostic batteries, but her speciality is in reading, writing, and language assessment.  Since joining Psychology Profs, she has dedicated herself to understanding the intersection of neuropsychology and education performance.

She is a proud graduate of two local institutions: Paris Junior College, where she received her associate's degree in liberal arts; and Texas A&M University at Commerce, where she received her bachelor's degree in education. She also completed graduate-level study at Michigan State University's College of Education, where she received training in Educational Psychology. She is board certified in psychometry by the U.S. Board of Certified Psychometrists.

While Mrs. K has no doubt touched the lives of thousands of children in Northeast Texas, the most grateful are certainly her own two kiddos: Dr. Khimen Cooper, a professor of English and Rhetoric at Collin College, and our own Dr. Ryan Cooper of Psychology Profs. Mrs. K has been married for 30 years to Ricky Cooper, a rival employee of Paris Independent School District. When she isn't working at the clinic, she spends her time bicycling with her husband, organizing rooms full (literally) of early childhood curriculum, or deeply engaged in bible study.  She also loves to travel, cook, and play miniature golf.  She and her husband are long-time members of the Pattonville Church of Christ.  She is patiently awaiting grandchildren from one of the Dr. Coopers.
